Job Description

As an lnternal Communications Lead at Hot Paper Lantern, this is what we expect:

Responsibilities

  • Industry Expertise: Digs deeply into execution, identifying emerging skills and opportunities in the profession and supporting learning within the organization. Maintains a continuous understanding of the evolving role of communications and actively contributes to POV through idea generation, recommendations, and suggestions for improvement. Possesses knowledge of and experience in multiple facets of communication and understands how they relate to each other.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Possesses a comprehensive understanding of internal corporate and business unit/division communications and employee experience, as well as the various elements of internal communications and employee engagement throughout the employee lifecycle for different groups and company sizes. Keeps up to date with emerging trends related to internal communications and employee engagement. Has experience managing leadership and HR communications with a solid grasp of best practices and core strategies. Remains knowledgeable on technology platforms, including existing and upcoming technologies used within the internal communications ecosystem (intranet, newsletter, digital signage, mobile/apps, and more).
  • Content Development: Shows creativity and ingenuity through new ideas, consistently offers suggestions, and identifies opportunities for clients. Demonstrates excellence in all written materials; handles a variety of writing projects that span Hot Paper Lantern’s disciplines and focus areas. Creates and delivers clear, concise, and compelling messages across different communication channels, such as email, intranet, digital signage, social media, and other tools.
  • Client Relations/Account Management: Acts as a subject matter expert as needed—whether on internal calls, client status updates, one-off initiatives, or other meetings/interactions. Builds client relationships, manages expectations, and provides strategic guidance on communication plans and strategies. Leads day-to-day activity across internal and external communications accounts and projects to ensure quality projects are delivered within the budget and timeline promised for the engagement(s).
  • Critical-Thinking Skills: Connects client requests and goals with strategies to achieve them. Analyzes information and concisely summarizes the core ideas in memos and other documents; produces compelling research reports.
  • Brand Ambassador: Represents the agency effectively in client, new business, and marketing interactions; shares ideas and expertise to foster continuous improvement.
  • Growth & Leadership: Delivers and requests feedback and manages an entry-level employee if/when appropriate. Seeks additional learning opportunities and captures top-tier market knowledge to refine and implement craft. Identifies organic growth opportunities and collaborates with senior leaders to realize them. Generates and develops research to establish HPL as a thought leader. Mentors or delegates, depending on the account or project role, and manage projects from start to finish.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Works seamlessly with internal teams, clients, and partners to develop new internal communications strategies. Effective communicator with teammates and clients; shares voice, opinions, ideas, and feedback; honest, clear, and direct; challenges self and others to learn and grow; dependable and team-focused.

Required Skills / Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field (Communications, Employee Engagement, HR).
  • Strong knowledge of internal communication best practices, strategies, and tactics.
  • Ability to balance multiple competing directions and manage multiple projects successfully.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator, able to capture many different brand voices and styles.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically and turn innovative ideas into practical solutions.
  • Proactive, efficient, detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Compensation based on work arrangement (see below), ranges are:

  • Hourly $85 - $150

Work arrangement: This role can be structured as part-time (for example, three to four days per week), or ongoing consulting, depending on the candidate and business needs. Compensation will be adjusted accordingly.
